Minor Advertising Company opened it's doors in 1986, founded by husband and wife team, James D. and Marilyn K. Minor. Jim Minor, a fourth generation Nevadan, graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Marilyn Minor, a first generation Nevadan, graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with honors, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a concentration in accounting. Jim and Marilyn attended kindergarten together at Anderson Elementary School in Reno, Nevada, have been married since 1979 and have three grown daughters. They are staunch believers that Northern Nevada is a wonderful place to work, play and raise a family!
Jim started his career as the Public Relations manager of Boomtown Hotel Casino in 1976. He spent four years directing advertising and marketing for then owner, and past Reno Mayor, Bob Cashell.
Jim left Boomtown to become an account executive at R & R Advertising, under the direction of Sig Rogich. Then, in the early 1980s, Jim, along with partners Bob Cashell, Tom Bahan, Dick Scott and Ed Allison, bought the Allison & Associates Advertising Agency from Jack Caramella, and Jim was appointed President. Over five years, Jim along with a staff of six associates, handled the advertising and marketing duties for a variety of Northern Nevada businesses, including Model Dairy, Boomtown, Scolari's, Reno Dodge and the Carson Nugget.
In 1984, Jim and his partners sold Allison & Associates to the largest advertising agency in the state at the time, DRGM, where Jim becameVice President of Account Services. There he gained a wealth of experience but realized the structure of a large agency environment limited his ability to devote the full attention each of his clients deserved.
With that in mind, in 1986 Jim and Marilyn started Minor Advertising Company together. Jim ran account services and Marilyn handled the bookkeeping and they both juggled the demands of raising three young daughters. Although still a partner and enthusiastic supporter, Marilyn left the business to embark upon a Real Estate career, now as an agent for Dickson Realty.
Since 1986 Jim and his staff have enjoyed working for some of Northern Nevada's most successful businesses. He feels fortunate to have achieved long-lasting client relationships and continues to believe that each client deserves absolute attention-to-detail and the best creative direction, media buying and latest technology available to help their business succeed in our ever-changing times.
Throughout the years, Jim has been a compassionate and active member of the community, donating much of his time to worthy causes in Nevada. His volunteerism includes: Board Member, Moms on the Run; President, Huffaker PFA; Board Member, Multiple Sclerosis; Board Member, Food Bank of Northern Nevada; Board Member, AAUN; Board Member, Northern Nevada Foundation; Board Member, Saint Mary's Foundation; as well as a member of the AAF, Reno (formerly A2N2).
